Mr. Gray gave us an assignment called our “Independent Project ''. We got to pick a topic that we wanted to do, it could have been a series of pictures, a film, a sculpture, or a series of paintings. I chose to do a series of paintings because I love to paint. My series of paintings was based off of the streets of Valparaiso, Chile. The reason and inspiration I chose to do this is because it is where my moms family is from. I've personally never been but I wanted to do these paintings to feel closer to my culture and to get to know the streets. I did a total of 5 paintings. During this process I used paint to make my paintings, I used a lot of bright colors to make the paintings feel more there. Although I feel like I could have done better on some of the paintings, I love them all. I think the thing I struggled the most with was trying to color match, I know it doesn't have to be perfect but I wanted to give it the full affect and make it feel more alive, trying to give it that affect was definitely not easy, trying to make straight lines without having thicker parts then others is definitely challenging. In this series of paintings I did them to show more about my country and culture because anywhere you go it's never really talked about. I want it to show the beautiful streets and art, the country's flowers and famous attractions, and make it more known to people. This project shows people who don't know the streets of Valparaiso and it shows places and art. I loved this project and watching my paintings come to life. |
